Air India Earns Global Certification for Pharmaceutical Shipments

by Grace

Air India has become the first and only Indian carrier, and one of the few in Asia, to attain the prestigious Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification. This certification recognizes the airline’s excellence in handling, storage, and transportation of time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments.

The GDP certification affirms Air India’s adherence to international guidelines for the safe and secure distribution of pharmaceuticals. In the financial year 2024-25, the airline successfully transported over 4,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical products across the globe.

“India is one of the world’s leading exporters of pharmaceutical products, requiring specialized logistics to ensure their safe and timely delivery worldwide. This certification underscores our expertise in this specialized field, reassuring global partners that we are fully equipped to maintain the integrity of every shipment,” said Ramesh Mamidala, Head of Cargo at Air India.

Air India’s GDP-certified stations in India include major cargo hubs in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Indore, and Goa. Internationally, the certification extends to key gateways such as New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Chicago, London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam, ensuring seamless connectivity for pharmaceutical shipments both within India and across the globe.
