SINGAPORE, March 22 — Singapore Airlines (SIA) has fully restored its operations at London’s Heathrow Airport following a major power station fire that caused significant disruptions and flight cancellations.
According to Channel News Asia (CNA), the first SIA flight to Heathrow, SQ308, departed from Changi Airport at 9 a.m. today, with additional flights SQ318, SQ322, and SQ312 scheduled to follow throughout the day.
However, two return flights from Heathrow to Singapore, SQ305 and SQ317, were cancelled, while other outbound services from London proceeded as planned, according to Heathrow Airport’s website.
A Heathrow Airport spokesperson confirmed that operations began resuming after 4 p.m. GMT yesterday, initially prioritizing repatriation flights and aircraft relocation. The airport aimed to restore full services by today.
The fire-induced shutdown at one of the world’s busiest airports left tens of thousands of passengers stranded, forcing many to seek alternative flights and accommodations. Heathrow, which had been set to handle 1,351 flights and approximately 291,000 passengers yesterday, saw severe disruptions, with flights diverted across Britain and Europe. Some long-haul flights were forced to return to their points of origin.
