Malaysia Airlines Unveils Lie-Flat Business Class Suites on Boeing 737-10 MAX

Malaysia Airlines is raising its game for premium travelers with the launch of lie-flat regional business class suites on its new Boeing 737-10 MAX jets. This move positions the carrier at the forefront of efforts to bring long-haul comfort to short-haul flights.

Each of the airline’s 737-10 MAX aircraft will feature 12 flatbed suites, marking a significant upgrade from the current 737-8 MAX, which offers business class recliners. Malaysia Airlines has ordered 12 of the 737-10 jets, with options for 15 more, as part of its broader fleet modernization plan to phase out older Boeing 737-800 models.

Although the first 737-10 has yet to be certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, Malaysia Airlines plans to operate a total of 55 737-8 and 737-10 aircraft by 2030.

The new business class on the 737-10 MAX jets includes direct aisle access for every passenger, with seats angled towards the window. Amenities include AC and USB power outlets, a small storage cabinet, and a smartphone book, which is expected to feature a wireless charging spot. The HD screens, which may stream audio via Bluetooth to personal headphones, also provide an immersive entertainment experience.

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, expressed excitement about the new product: “With the introduction of lie-flat business class seats on our new Boeing 737-10 aircraft, we are redefining the travel experience for our guests.”

This move is part of Malaysia Airlines’ ongoing effort to elevate its offerings, with the carrier aiming to position itself among the world’s leading airlines through “Malaysian Hospitality.”

The introduction of lie-flat suites on the 737-10 MAX will align with the airline’s broader fleet of Airbus A330neo and A350 aircraft, which are also receiving new international business class suites. This trend is also being pursued by regional competitors, such as Singapore Airlines, which plans to feature lie-flat beds in every plane by 2025, and Thai Airways, which recently unveiled a new flatbed business class for its A321neo, A350, Boeing 787, and Boeing 777 fleets.
