Lufthansa City Airlines has officially received its first brand-new Airbus A320neo at the Airbus factory in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. The aircraft, registered D-AIJP and named “Ingelheim am Rhein,” marks a significant step in the airline’s development as part of the Lufthansa Group. This new addition is set to redefine continental traffic between Munich and, from 2026, Frankfurt hubs, enhancing the airline’s competitive edge in short-haul markets and supporting future growth on long-haul routes.
Peter Albers, Managing Director of Lufthansa City Airlines, emphasized the importance of the new aircraft in motivating the airline’s workforce. “Our new aircraft is a further motivation and incentive for the commitment and excellent work of all our employees, who contribute to the success and growth of our airline every day,” he said after the official handover.
The new A320neo, which will begin operations in May, offers seating for 180 passengers. It features the latest Airspace cabin, including larger overhead bins, modern lighting, and improved seating comfort—all part of Lufthansa’s signature high-quality service.
With the addition of this aircraft, Lufthansa City Airlines now operates a fleet of eight aircraft, including four Airbus A319s and four Airbus A320neos. By the end of 2025, the fleet will expand to 15 aircraft, with the addition of five new Airbus A320neos and two additional A320neos. Starting in late 2026, the airline is set to receive the first of 40 Airbus A220-300s on order, further expanding its fleet and capabilities.
